The right underlay improves comfort, acoustics and underfloor-heating performance, while colour-matched scotia and trims give edges and doorways a clean, seamless finish. Using the correct adhesive and profiles also protects your warranty and helps your engineered oak or herringbone floor perform exactly as intended.

What you'll need for a typical installation

For a floating plank floor, allow one roll of underlay per 10–15m² plus scotia or beading for the room perimeter and a threshold profile for each doorway. Glue-down installations — essential for herringbone and chevron patterns and recommended over underfloor heating — need a flexible MS-polymer adhesive at roughly one 15kg tub per 12–15m², applied with the correct notched trowel. Finish with a suitable cleaner and maintenance kit for your lacquered or oiled surface: oiled floors benefit from periodic re-oiling, while lacquered boards need only a pH-neutral wood floor cleaner.
